Rules
Eligibility
The BDA Prize is open to all. No professional qualification is required. Entries can be developed individually or by teams.
Format
The BDA Prize requires a physical 30″ x 20″(76.2 x 50.8 cm) piece of paper (landscape orientation) as well as descriptive text. Descriptive text must be submitted via the entry form and is limited to 1000 characters. Text must be in English to be judged.
Digital submissions are not accepted.
Due to exhibition restrictions, we ask that you do not mount your entry to foam or matboard.
After you submit your entry on our website you will receive an email with your registration number. Print this number clearly on the back of your 30 x 20 entry. Do not put your name or any identifying information on the front of your work.

Online Gallery
There will be an online gallery of all entries to the 2019 BDA Prize. To have your work included, upload a JPG image of your submission. Uploading a image to the online gallery does not supersede the requirement to mail or deliver a physical piece of paper with your entry. You must submit a physical copy to be considered for the prize.
Jury
All competitors’ designs will be submitted and judged anonymously. The decisions of the jury shall be taken by a majority vote, with a separate vote on each design submitted. In the event of a tied vote, the Chairman shall have the casting vote.
Awards
BDA Prize cash awards will be distributed in compliance with United States and Commonwealth of Virginia regulations. We cannot send money to individuals residing in countries subject to the Department of the Treasury’s OFAC Consolidated Sanctions List. From US citizens, we will need a tax ID or SSN prior to distributing cash awards. Award winners will receive an IRS Form 1099 from us in January 2020.

Correspondence with organizers must be conducted in English.
Jury members shall under no circumstances be contacted by competition participants or their representatives. Participants who attempt to contact jury members shall be disqualified.
Submission Rights
Each Contestant grants to The BDA Prize and others acting on behalf of The BDA Prize, a perpetual royalty-free non-exclusive worldwide license to use, copy for use, reproduce, and display publicly all or part of the Submission. This license further includes using the Submission or any portion thereof for the subsequent procurement of related architectural, planning, and/or design services. Contestants retain the right to simultaneously use their Submission for all other purposes, including but not limited to, inclusion of the Submission in sample work portfolios. The author of any design shall retain the copyright of their work; no alterations may be made without their formal consent.
Publicity
Except where prohibited, participation in the BDA Prize constitutes the contestant’s consent to The BDA Prize and its agents’ use of Contestant’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions, and/or hometown and state for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration.
Original Work
Contestant warrants that he or she is the sole author and owner of the Submission, and that the Submission is wholly original with the Contestant, and that it does not infringe any copyright or any other rights of any third party of which Contestant is aware.
Return of Submission
Submissions will not be returned. They may be picked up at Bushman Dreyfus Architects for 2 weeks after the close of the exhibit. Submissions not picked up by this time will be discarded. The BDA Prize cannot guarantee that posters will remain unaltered or undamaged during the course of the competition, although we will endeavor to protect all entries to the best of our ability.
Amendments
The BDA Prize reserves the right to change the schedule or issue amendments to the contest rules at any time. The BDA Prize also reserves the right to cancel or reissue the contest brief.
